Announcements for 1/20/2017

·      FCA - everyone is invited to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in the Gym at 12:00 on Friday - Be there!


·      The Mav Cafe will be open this Friday. We will be serving coffee and hot chocolate along with chocolate chip cookies, donut muffins, and Rice Krispie treats with M&Ms. We hope to see you there!!


·      Basketball has away games at Canton.  Game times are 4/5/6/7:30.  Go Mavs!


·      Color Run is February 4!  Sign up Friday and still get early bird discount.  Student price is $20 this week.  An exam exemption card is given to participants.  Registration forms available in the front office and online.

·      Any sophomores who are interested in taking the CPE class next school year are invited to visit with Mrs. Guynes during MAV break on Wednesday, January 25 in the Counselor's office. She will be explaining the program and answering any question you may have.


·      T-shirts for Night in the Spotlight will be on sale during Mav Break in room 232 from January 23-27. Shirts are $15.


·      Seniors: David Thames' of Shelter Insurance is offering one GHS Senior a scholarship! Students must plan to attend an accredited college or university and graduate from GHS in May, 2017. Applications may be picked up in the Counselor's office or downloaded from the Counselor's website. The deadline to return completed applications to Mrs. Cox is March 31, 2017.


·      AP Exam Registration

            January 17th – February 17th

            Cost: $93

            • Please see an AP teacher if you would like to sign up to take an            AP exam.

            • If you are planning to register for multiple tests, you will            register for             all the tests on one form.

            • All exams are given on specific dates. If you are going to have a           conflict on the specific date please go by the counselors’ office   and speak to Rebecca Cobb ASAP!

            • The AP Exam Schedule is posted outside the counselors’            office.


§  Class Rings will be delivered on Wednesday, January 25 at 11:30.  Please bring your balance due at this time.  If you need to order a ring please bring an $80 deposit. 


§  Any girls participating in Night in the Spotlight that would like a 20% off coupon to Once Upon a Dress can pick up one in room 232.


§  Any student who has taken or is currently enrolled in Foundations of Journalism and would like to apply to be on Yearbook Staff next year can pick up an application outside of room 232. These are due February 8!


§  Get your group ready! Germantown's Got Talent is coming on Jan. 23rd! Pick up a registration packet outside Mrs. Owens' room 403 (Fine Arts Hall). All forms and fees are due to Mrs. Owens by Jan. 17th.


§  The 6th annual Night in the Spotlight will be held February 25. This consists of a Beauty and Beau pageant as well as the announcement of Who's Who winners. If you would like to participate in the pageant, forms are available on the website or in room 232. Forms and payment are due February 1st! See Mrs. Kinsley if you have any questions.


§  Summer Opportunities for Juniors

         Rural Medical Scholars


            Mississippi high school juniors considering medical careers in     their home state have the opportunity to take part in an intense            and revealing summer program at Mississippi State             University.


            When: May 29 through June 30


            Turn in completed application to the counselor’s office by            February 17th.


            Requirements: Must have an ACT score of 24 and currently be classified as a junior.


      The selected scholars will receive tuition, housing and textbooks          during the program. A $100 registration fee is required after           acceptance, and the scholars will be responsible for their food           expenses. §  The Tupelo Elvis Presley Fan Club is offering several scholarships for graduating seniors. More information may be found on the Counselor's webpage and the deadline is February 14. 2017.


§  The Mississippi Association of Supervisors (MAS) announces the opening of the 2016-2017 submission period for the MAS County Employee Scholarship Program. Applicants must have an immediate family member (parent, stepparent, grandparent, step-grandparent, legal guardian or spouse) currently working for or retired from a Mississippi county to be eligible to apply. Relatives of elected county officials are not eligible. MAS will award up to two $500 scholarships per county and the deadline is March 1, 2017.
