Anna Abraham

Hi, ASE family!

I am so excited to be the additional counselor at ASE this year!!   I look forward to working with teachers, principals, parents, students, and the community to help all children at Ann Smith Elementary be successful!  This year I will be working with PreK, all Kindergarten classes, and 1st grade classes (Box, Carter, Caver, Fairley, Noble, and Jackson).  My mission is to create a safe and fun learning environment for all of our students.  I will provide individual, group, and class guidance counseling throughout the year.  Classroom guidance lessons will focus on ASE Character Traits and pro-social skills.  Small group counseling will focus on what those certain students need such as Anger Management, Grief, Divorce, Self-Control, and Anxiety.  Teachers and/or parents my refer students to me throughout the year.
My plan is to implement Conscious Discipline and PBIS to make our school environment fun, exciting, but mostly importantly safe for all that enter the building.

About the Counselor

This is my fourth year to work at ASE.  However, this is my first year to be a school counselor.  Last spring I finished my Masters in School Counseling at Mississippi College.  I was able to do my internship at Ann Smith while I taught first grade.  It was a challenging year as I had to work and complete my internship.  However, it was an awesome learning experience!  During my internship, I was able to be a part of our PBIS team  to help our school become a PBIS Model School.  I am very blessed to be able to stay with my same school family as I begin a new journey in my career.

Before coming to Ann Smith, I taught 4th grade and 1st grade at Philadelphia Elementary for three years.  I then relocated to Gluckstadt, MS because I married the love of my life, Charlie Abraham, on May 25, 2013.  That is when I began my new journey at Ann Smith Elementary.
A fun fact about me is that I am the third generation of teachers in my family.  My Mamaw taught for 36 years and my mom just started her 28th year of teaching.  It is a passion for all three of us to work in the education field.
One quote that my Mamaw always says is "You can loose everything, but no one can ever take your education away from you."  Education has always been very important for my family.  I was the third generation of my family to graduate from Union High School in my hometown Union, MS.  Then I was able to attend three wonderful colleges to pursue my career: East Central Community College, Mississippi State University, and Mississippi College.  Each school left an impact on me and lead me to my passion of instilling the love of learning and giving a sense of belonging to all.
I look forward to working with students at Ann Smith Elementary to help them be successful!
