A Common Core Guide for Mannsdale Families

At Mannsdale Elementary, we are excited about providing the best education possible.  Madison County Schools has adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) as our framework beginning in grades K-2 for the 2011-2012 school year.  This framework has been adopted by more than 40 states. This is a national movement to adopt common standards and assessments for English and mathematics.  Currently, standards for what students should know and be able to do vary among states, as does the difficulty of the assessments used to determine whether students are meeting these standards.  Common standards allow for collaboration among states on best practices and professional development.  The CCSS are important because they help insure your student is prepared for success in college and the workforce.  It will ensure that all students, no matter where they live, have internationally benchmarked standards and assessments that are clear and understandable and consistent.  Standards provide a clear roadmap for learning for teachers, parents and students.  They help parents and teachers know when students need extra assistance or when they need to be more challenged.  Mannsdale teachers are trained in "Differentiated Instruction" techniques to reach the needs of every learner in the classroom.  Communicate with the teacher to receive a copy of the guide that explains the framework pertaining to your child's grade.  You can find more information about CCSS on the Madison County Schools website, www.madison-schools.com
