Hello! We are going to have a terrific year. I am so excited to be the PAthways teacher for second grade at Madison Avenue Elemenentary. I would like to introduce myself and our gifted program at MAE.
My name is Lisa Sherman. I grew up in Clarksdale, Mississippi. I graduated with a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Missississippi. My first experience teaching gifted students was in 1985. I taught in a pilot program for gifted kindergarten and first grade students at the Mississippi University for Women's Demonstration School in Columbus, Mississippi. After leaving MUW, my next experience teaching gifted students was with Desoto County Schools where I taught for twenty-five years. I have been teaching gifted at Madison Avenue Elementary the past threeyears. Teaching gifted students is truly a privilege and a pleasure!
The PAthways curriculum focuses on seven areas of instruction; thinking skills, creativity skills, communication skills, research skills/self-directed study, leadership skills/group dynamics, social/emotional development, and career/self-awareness. Each nine-weeks we will explore a new unit of study. The unit of study is a springboard for teaching the PAthways curriculum. Your child will come to PAthways two days a week. However, he/she will not miss lunch, special classes, class parties, or school-wide assemblies.
I look forward to a year full of meaningful and memorable learning experiences. If you ever have information or materials that will enrich our unit of study, please feel free to share it with our class. By working together, we can ensure that your child will be a life long learner!
